1978 Kenner Star Wars Collection Death Star Playset Commercial

In 1978, Kenner knew they had a money machine with their Star Wars Collection action figures and toys. And as evidence of how times were different I present this commercial for the Death Star Space Station playset. This is one of the toys I never had as a kid and one I’d be quite happy to have on my shelf today, but what I find most interesting is that Kenner produced a large variety Star Wars commercials for the vintage line where Hasbro, today, has produced . . . well, just how many Star Wars toy commercials has Hasbro released in the last five years? The last decade?

I’ll ignore my own question for now and instead just enjoy this classic commercial.

  1. Ah, yes – back when a trash monster was just a…well, a trash monster.

This was one of my most prized possessions as a kid; I even glued & taped it back together as best as I could after my sister took a flying leap into it.

  2. I wish I still had mine, T-Rav. I’ve been looking on eBay to find a replacement at a reasonable price; might have to piece one together rather than shell out the ridiculous money that some want for an intact Death Star.

  3. I’ve only got a few pieces left of mine as well. There’s a “legend” of someone buying up enough of these “slices” to make a complete circle. I’ve never seen a photo or confirmation, but whoever that dude is, he’s livin’ the dream!
