Reading – Armored Trooper Votoms: Scopedog21C Master Book

For having almost zero experience with the Armored Trooper Votoms series I do love the Scopedog mecha design. And when I spotted this gorgeous Armored Trooper Votoms: Scopedog21C Master Book volume at a shop in Hong Kong I couldn’t resist buying the book and dragging it back to my hotel. This morning I’ve been flipping through the book for about an hour and decided that I just had to snap some quick pics and share with all of you.

What’s Inside?

Photos of models, illustrations of the mecha and variants, and a great section of technical drawings showing every part of the Scopedog. This book is beautiful and has made me again wish I had time to tackle a similar project for other properties. Actually, that gives me an idea I need to write down right now . . .

Words Hard, Photos Bad

Unfortunately, the photos are actually far less useful and impressive than they should be. I blame a combination of the book not laying flat, no tripod with me on my trip, and the sheer insanity of sleep deprivation. So enjoy these bad pics as best you can, because I now realize that I can’t even clearly write.

Wow, this is likely the worst post ever. Can you guys forgive me?

  1. I will forgive you, because it is Votoms. And if you have any interest in robots in fiction, you need to see Votoms.

You’ve never seen the anime? It’s an 80’s classic. If you are into Macross, Gundam 1979, Mospeada, or the Real Robot genre in general- it is a must see. Unlike other sequential series, it undergoes vast shifts in tone and setting throughout the show, with it having elements of “Blade Runner” at first, then many similarities to Vietnam war films like “Platoon” or “Apocalypse Now”, then to post-apocalypse tone like “Mad Max”- it changes tone several times. Now you’ve done it… I’ve got to watch it again 😉
