Star Wars Shadows of the Empire 1996 Toy Commercial
Everyone remembers the big Star Wars push of 1996, right? Shadows of the Empire (Amazon.com search*) was Lucasfilm’s attempt at a “movie without a film” and across 1996 many licensees released toys, a novel, comics, games, and even a music CD all in support of the Shadows of the Empire event. The basic story was what happened between Empire and Jedi, and while the execution doesn’t quite hold up the idea is still as fantastic as it was ambitious.
Kenner joined in on the fun with an entire Shadows of the Empire subline, bringing the old Slave 1 toy back (with better paint) and even producing entirely new vehicles. Check out this 1996 commercial and then just try to resist finding an Outrider of your own.
