Affiliate Link – Darth Vader and the Ghost Prison
With yesterday’s announcement that Star Wars comics are moving to Marvel next year (posted here) it’s time to grab the various Dark Horse books, which means that it’s also time for me to go through my shelves to determine what I’m missing. And in doing that I found myself again reading Darth Vader and the Ghost Prison*. This story, set shortly after the end of the prequel trilogy, is little more than an excuse to watch Darth Vader grow more powerful as he combats a military coup . . . through the aid of prisoners. The ironic twist is that many of the prisoners had been captured by Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars. Anakin turned his prisoners over to the Jedi Council, and in a semi-flashback sequence we see Skywalker demanding to know where his prisoners were being kept. It’s a fun read, the art’s incredible, and everything about the book reminds me why Dark Horse held the Star Wars license for over two decades.
Marvel has some very big shoes to fill.
A traitorous uprising against the fledgling Galactic Empire leaves Emperor Palpatine close to death. The only ones standing between the insurgents and victory are Darth Vader, the cybernetic Moff Trachta, and a crippled young Lieutenant fresh from the Academy. Saving the Emperor – and the Empire – appears to be a lost cause, unless Vader can uncover the secrets of the Jedi Council and locate the mysterious “Ghost Prison.” The odds are stacked against them, and the future looks bleak. But that’s exactly when the power of the dark side is the strongest!
