Toy News International Asks Readers About G.I. Joe
Last week I mentioned that this year marks fifty years of Hasbro’s G.I. Joe brand (posted here), and it seems that more people are directing attention to the “birth of the action figure” as Toy News International’s latest poll asks “Do you think Hasbro has big plans for G.I.Joe’s 50th Anniversary this year?”
The results aren’t looking all that positive, with more “no” votes making me think very few action figure and G.I. Joe fans have much faith in Hasbro. Visit Toy News International to vote before the poll closes, and I really don’t think we’ll have an answer from Hasbro until New York Toy Fair. After all, a big announcement and event at New York Toy Fair would be perfectly fitting since it was NYTF in 1964 when G.I. Joe was first revealed to the public.
I’m hoping Hasbro will surprise us all.

I hope Hasbro surprises us but I really get the idea that Hasbro doesn’t even know what to do with G.I. Joe anymore. Don’t get me wrong, they’ve done some good stuff but they never seem to follow through with anything. I know kids toylines change pretty often but Hasbro seems to be on a kick where they change G.I. Joe before they ever get a chance to see if there new “theme” is a success or not.
I think retailers recognize this because hardly anyone makes space for Joe anymore. Then again, there isn’t much there for retailers to put out.
