Remco vs. Funko – Universal Monsters for Your Pocket!

When I mentioned the ReAction Creature from the Black Lagoon action figure a few days ago (posted here), a few comments popped up that made me think I need to fire off this quick post.

On that earlier post, Jason S. wrote:

I had some Universal Monster action figures back in the mid-80′s that were 5-point articulation and the Gill-Man was more detailed than this one. I don’t remember the company that put them out, but they had a pretty extensive run.

And on that same post Kevin wrote:

I remember there being Universal Monster figures at this size back then, too. Didn’t Mego produce them?

Well, Jason and Kevin remembered correctly that there were small Universal Monsters action figures in the eighties, and today I get to point all of you at the Remco Mini-Monsters shown at both toymania.com and thegalleryofmonstertoys.com. Fantastic fun, but for just a little more excitement don’t miss the playset, shown at i-mockery.com.

Remco Dracula on the left, Funko Dracula on the right. The two toys are not identical, but it's clear that owning both would lead to some exciting fights between the toys.

  1. A front-page mention! I feel like a star! Thanks for clearing up what the heck we were remembering. Those look nifty.
