1983 G.I. Joe Headquarters Playset Commercial
It was early in 1984 when I first had a chance to play with the G.I. Joe Headquarters playset (see yojoe.com). I remember staying the night at a friend’s house and he had gotten the playset for Christmas and we were up way, way too late playing with this and several other G.I. Joe toys.
My memory may be faulty, but for some reason I still think of the G.I. Joe toys from the mid-eighties as some of the best deals to be had. I can remember a few agonizing times when I had to decide between a new G.I Joe toy or a new Transformers toy . . . and chose Joe because I got a figure and vehicle for the same price as one Transformers toy. But is that really true, or am I imagining some memories of price points?

I do not think you are imagining things. Transformers were expensive even for the ’80s. For every one new Transformer I got I probably had three or four Joes.
@Prfkt Tear – I assume it was the diecast metal in the Transformers toys that drove the high prices.
