My Ten Favorite Transformers Comic Book Covers of the Marvel Era

transformerscovers

This past weekend I posted “My Ten Favorite Star Wars Comic Book Covers of the Marvel Era”, and looking through all of those classic covers was so much fun I decided to create a similar list of ten Marvel Transformers covers of the eighties and nineties.

This was actually a tougher list to create, but only because I had to resist the urge to simply flood the post with Transformers Generation Two covers. I still find the art from that series fantastic, but rather than get into that here I’ll instead direct you to this post from 2010.

Enjoy these classic Transformers covers!

  1. A great selection of covers there.

Is one allowed to include the UK covers as well? Some of those are iconic from the dawn of the brand appearances weren’t quite as unified. They made beautiful painted covers for a couple of the first issues..

and I think this could have been an american cover as well?

and every cover by Geoff Senior

  2. And Yaniger’s style was top drawer, I thought it shame that they made the other artist on the series adopt it as well because it suffered a bit as the series progressed.

  3. This is why I love you Phil, it’s as if you are writing these articles aimed directly at my brain! The whole arc leading up to that unicron cover was amazing and very influential to me.

  4. I never read the transformers comics growing up. Actually, I wasn’t that big of a transformers fan until about 2006. I just recently got a whole heap of the US comics from the 80s and am excited to start reading. These covers are all fantastic.

I also recently got an MP-10 Optimus Prime, and I am incredibly tempted to paint his face behind the mask a dark blue, and his eyes a bright yellow to match these comics and the G1 toy.

  5. No Car Wash of Doom? I’m disappointed in you. Not only is it the only marvel transformer comic that I own as a single issue (i got the trades of course); its exactly what I loved about old marvel, they knew how to be silly.
