Masters of the Universe Classics Ending?

As shown at Toy News International (and several other sites) Mattel has posted a teaser image for this Friday, June 27 at 9am. The implication is that the Masters of the Universe Classics action figure series (Amazon.com search*) is coming to an end.

The he-man.org forum thread is one place to check for fan reactions, or you can always just wait until later this week to find out what Mattel has planned for the Masters of the Universe Classics action figure series (Amazon.com search*). Is 2014 the last year? Is there one more year if subscriptions gather enough support? No idea. We have to wait and see.

  1. If true, I think the writing was on the wall. Haven’t there been issues with the Club almost not getting the minimum subscriptions the past couple of years? They already pushed forward with producing more essential characters and leaving out some of the more obscure choices. Maybe this is Mattel just deciding to go out on a high note and produce one last stellar year of figures. While it’s a shame they won’t get to every character fans want, Mattel really did a fantastic job releasing an enormous selection of MOTU toys.

  2. Personally, I wonder if this is just Mattel’s way of shutting things down for a but in 2016 so they can transition over to movie based product. We’ve been hearing more rumblings that something seems to be happening with the project and knowing that Mattel doesn’t usually like differing versions of their characters available at once, this kind of makes sense.

  3. This announcement did not come as any big surprise. Anyone who claims they are shocked are lying or had their heads down in the sand. I can’t see any reason for Mattel to shut down the “Classics” line only to continue making the same toys under another moniker. We’ll see though, anything is possible.
