Spotted Online – Bludgeon: Pretender or Real Deal?

Thanks to a lead over at 16bit.com I followed a link to the KO Toys forum where the following pic was posted.

This was presented as a factory photo of an upcoming Transformers ROTF toy that’s being released as Bludgeon, an old Pretender from the 80s that actually saw a lot of action in the Marvel comic of the time.

I can’t decide what to think of this new toy. I mean, it’s cool that they’re releasing a new version of Bludgeon but this one’s so unlike the original that what’s the point? Too many times Hasbro just slaps an old name on a new toy and figures that’s good enough for us all. At least this time around there are some similarities to the original design, I just wish that the chest on the new toy didn’t look like it had giant eyes that detract from the toy’s actual head.

  1. Phil, check out this link for the Hasbro pic from SDCC:

It looks really good. One of the problems with vintage Bludgeon is that there are barely any paint details on the shell, so it is not really indicative of what he would look like fully painted. The comic reflects that look.

Also, the new ROTF figure is trying to blend a movie look with the classic look – many influences! I’m looking forward to it.
