1986 Milton Bradley “Torpedo Run!” Boardgame Commercial

I simply do not remember this game, but now that I’ve seen the commercial I can honestly say that this looks like something I’d love to try. Milton Bradley’s Torpedo Run! (boardgamegeek.com entry) features ships that fire little disks, and successfully striking the targets causes your opponent’s ships to be destroyed. Simple, looks like a blast, and takes up a massive amount of floor space once you get it all ready for play.

I wonder just how much it would cost to make a game of this size these days. I’m betting “lots,” based on the size of the playmat and all of the parts packed inside the game.

  1. I had this game when I was in elementary school and my brother and I would play it for hours on end. I distinctly remember the part about the Floor Wars series and we waited anxiously for the next game in that line but it never happened.

  2. Oh man. This really brings back memories. I always wanted to play it, but my parents wouldn’t get it for me. The one time they agreed to go to the store with me, we couldn’t find it. Maybe I can hunt one down now….

Somewhat similar to this game is Crossbows & Catapults. In that game, you build up a little castle that covered up specifics parts on the board. You would then use either a crossbow or catapult to fire discs (they kind of looked like checker pieces) and knock over your opponent’s castle. Fun times!
