Mike Mignola on Color
Here’s a very fun (and short!) video from 2009 where Mike Mignola — you know, creator of the Hellboy comic series* — discusses color and storytelling. I’ve always subconsciously noticed that Mignola uses color to set scenes, but hearing the discussion of how color is used in Mignola’s storytelling really drives home the effectiveness of using color to make things easier on the reader.
The video’s very short at two minutes, but it’s totally worth the time to watch if you’re a comic reader. If you ever want to actually create your own comics then this discussion on color is a must watch. Trust me, it’s only two minutes and could change how you personally use color if you’re an artist trying to make comics.
