Classic Star Wars #1 Preview from 1992
Back in 1992, long before the internet became of massive thing that it is today, collecting news about upcoming comic books wasn’t exactly easy. Sure there was Wizard magazine, and poking through newsletters at the comic shop, but we couldn’t easily go online and find out everything we wanted to know about new books.
And that’s where Dark Horse Insider entered the picture. Color cover, B&W interiors, more ad than book, Dark Horse Insider was the company’s way of making sure to get us all excited about upcoming books. And in this August, 1992 issue of the book — complete with that awesome Dave Dorman Predator cover — we got a full-page peek at the Classic Star Wars comic #1.
Adapting the early eighties Star Wars newspaper strip into comic book form, Classic Star Wars (Amazon.com search*) was a great way for Dark Horse to sell me more Star Wars comics by adapting the past to better fit the (then) present. And I loved it!
Man, Al Williamson’s Star Wars artwork looks as incredible today as it did thirty years ago. You just cannot beat perfection!
