Spotted Online – Star Wars Black Chewbacca Review at It’s All True
Hasbro’s 6-inch scale Star Wars Black series (Amazon.com search*) continues to have distribution problems, with the pegwarming Leia and Greedo now joined by Han Solo in the Austin area. And those Wave Five action figures like Darth Vader and Chewbacca? Well, you can forget seeing those around here, because every Walgreens I check has a hole where the toys once were.
And now in the Chewbacca review at It’s All True I see in the comments that some are expressing a loss in excitement for the Star Wars Black series. This isn’t at all a surprise, because the toys being a bit tough to locate at retail for an extended period of time is sure to have an affect on collectors. I suggest checking out not only the Chewbacca review but also read the comments; Hasbro needs to get the distribution issues solved and make it easy for fans to buy these without paying the scalers.

I see a big part of the problem as not just being the distribution issues but also the case packs. If the case packs were better, distribution would be less of an issue. I’ve seen plenty of good deals for series 3, 4, but it presumes that I’m willing to rebuy figures I already own. Series 5 fortunately did a repaint of the Sandtrooper but series 6 has Hasbro back up to their old tricks with a repack of Obi-Wan Kenobi, AKA the most boring figure in the line.
@Barbecue17 – Agreed. Hasbro seems to not know how many of each figure to insert into a case. I wonder if the entire case concept for action figures has outlived its use. It may be time for companies to create smaller cartons that are multiples of a single figure.
These 6″ Black figures got me to buy my first new Star Wars figures in almost 30 years. They are impossible to find, and they are expensive, but part of me has actually been enjoying the hunt (a little bit). I’ve limited myself to the characters who appeared in A New Hope, so my frustration level has been lower than it might be for others.
