Review – Junkticon Blasters (for Transformers Shattered Glass Junkions)
Designed for use with the 2012 Shattered Glass Junkions*, this set of three weapons gives each of the three different Junkions a blaster that was inspired by one of the three original 1985 Insecticons. This is a very simple third party upgrade, but between my love of the Insecticons and that Reveal the Shield Wreck-Gar* mold I just had to grab this pack. More guns!
Packaging
The Junkticon Blasters (still available at BBTS) comes in a small plastic case. A sticker is it for artwork and each weapon is individually bagged to protect them during shipping. Clearly, no money was blown on elaborate packaging. Awesome, because I’m a gonna open this box and get busy!
Bombshell’s Cerebro-Shell Blaster
First up is a weapon that’s clearly inspired by Bombshell’s weapon. The plastic quality of the guns in the set is excellent and the weapons fit quite nicely in the fists of the Shattered Glass Junkions*. I’m certain these will also work with the Fansproject Insecticons, but since I got an extra set of weapons (when I ordered the Armored Battalion set from TFSource) a few years ago my Fansproject Insecticons are already equipped for battle.
Shrapnel’s Grenade Launcher
Next up (shown directly above) is a weapon that can’t be inspired by anything but the 1985 Shrapnel’s gun. See the Shrapnel entry at tfu.info for pics of that original gun; this is a very nice take on the older weapon. These Junkticon Blasters are not chromed like the weapons that inspired them, but the silver plastic looks good and should wear well.
Kickback’s Sub-Machine Gun
Lastly is the weapon that was inspired by the 1985 Transformers Kickback toy’s accessory. The drum attachment on the weapon is loose and I really need to glue it into place, but otherwise this is just as nice an accessory as the other two weapons. A good buy for anyone who owns the Shattered Glass Junkions* and wants to swap out the melee weapons for firearms.
Closing Thoughts
The Junkticon Blasters set is a fairly simple and small third party Transformers upgrade, but since it helps improve the look of an official toy set I think this is what we need to see more of from the third party industry: Accessories that enhance official toys. These guns really help those Insecticon-inspired Shattered Glass Junkions* feel even better, and the only thing that could make them better still would be to add the Junkticon-flavored armor upgrade kit that was also created by Maiden Japan.
You can bet that’s happening right away!
