You Need to Read Toyland
Over the weekend I started reading Toyland: The High-Stakes Game of the Toy Industry*, and I instantly got into the book. The writing is entertaining and conversational, and the discussion of the toy industry of the eighties is a great read for any of us who were kids back then.
And as an added bonus the toy follows the development of Tyco’s Dino-Riders toys. Over at dinoridersworld.com you can get a summary of the book’s look at the Dino-Riders, but I’m here to say that the summary is in no way a replacement for actually reading the book.
I’m not yet finished, but so far this is fantastic and I kinda regret that I’ve never read the book before now. Definitely recommended if you have any interest at all in action figure creation and marketing in the eighties.
