1984 Remco Fortress of Doom Playset!
One thing that working on Each Sold Separately has done is make me wish that all of the old toy catalogs of the eighties were scanned at hi-res and collected into a book. Seriously, how is it when books about Star Wars, Transformers, and G.I. Joe toys of the eighties get made the promotional materials are basically ignored? Those catalogs and ads need to be in a book!
Anyway, it was while at the Plaid Stallions site over the weekend I ran across another very awesome thing from the eighties . . . that may have never been made! The 1984 Remco catalog shows off a lot of great toys, but it’s that giant Fortress of Doom playset that caught my eye first. Clearly scaled for Masters of the Universe-inspired action figure, the Fortress of Doom would have been perfect with any kid’s collection of Masters of the Universe toys.
“The ultimate in fantasy fortresses is now a reality with the Fortress of Doom, a 3 foot high, 4 level fantasy playset with elevating drawbridges, mobil transporters, working dungeons, moveable gates, weapons rack, and much, much more. It’s the world of fantasy figures vs. THE FORTRESS OF DOOM – who can overcome it. The fantasy play is endless!”

Love this, and the Star Fortress. I was born in 85, so I missed the first round of Kenner et al zaniness, but I love looking at stuff like this from the era. I think I like it more as an adult than a kid!
@Wolf – Now you’re making me feel old . . .
I had a couple of these Remco figures knocking around Eternia with He-Man and company but I don’t think I’ve ever even seen this playset! Very cool!
