Tonka’s 1987 Steel Monsters Toys
I was flipping through a 1987 Tonka catalog when I ran across the Steel Monsters toyline. Okay, I cannot remember seeing this before . . . and now I want it! Mad Max, Car Wars, and Road Blasters were all great parts of my childhood, and somehow it seems criminal that I went almost thirty years without knowing about these toys. (And if I have seen these before then my ancient brain forgot about them.)

Further proof of the awesomeness of the 80s. Something so bleak could hardly be made for kids these days.
The only one that I had was the one in the commercial and it was awesome! The figures had the same body style/articulation as the Kenner Star Wars figures making for great crossover characters. The figures were even sold carded in 2 packs I believe.
