1996 Marvel Comics Commercial for Spider-Man #72

After that bit of fun with the Marvel G.I. Joe commercial (posted here) I started trying to figure out what other toyline-based comic books were promoted with commercials. All I can find are G.I. Joe and Transformers comic book commercials from the eighties, so if any of you have info on other toy-based comic commercials please let me know.

What I did find during my search, though, was this 1996 commercial for the Spider-Man comic books. I am assuming animation was just too costly to take the same approach Marvel used for the G.I. Joe and Transformers comic book commercials, but it’s great to see that they were trying to broaden their audience by reaching out to kids with a commercial. Just how many issues of Spider-Man #72 did they have to sell to make this pay for itself?
