1994 Hero Illustrated “X” Covers by Dave Johnson and Joe Quesada
You can start to uncover some really strange things once you start digging through boxes and binders. As proof of this I present two comic covers from 1994 for X, a Dark Horse comic book of the time that ran until 1996. What makes these two covers special is that they’re from Hero Illustrated magazine (Amazon.com search*), a short-lived magazine that tried to follow the success of Wizard. The magazine didn’t last all that long.
The first issue (above) cover is by Dave Johnson. I loved Johnson’s work on Superpatriot*, and this cover is every bit as fun as his work on that series.
The second cover is by Joe Quesada . . . who you all know. We won’t even bother pretending that you don’t.

I love Dave Johnson’s work. He is an incredible artist. The design of his work is awesome. Has always been an influence to me as an illlustrator and designer. If you ever get a chance, check out the Drink and Draw books (Vol. 1 and 2), they are phenomenal. He has some great stuff in there too.
@Jason – Agree. His art is great and has a really strong distinctive look. I should dig out some old Superpatriot issues again.
