Early Expanded Experimentation (Star Wars fans will want to see this.)
A little something I’ve been toying around with lately. Fans of the 1998 Kenner Star Wars Expanded Universe action figures (Amazon.com search*) may be interested at this peek at the earliest stages of an idea. I’m outlining, photographing, scanning, and generally experimenting as I assemble my various thoughts and ideas into a solid whole.
And it’s not just the materials I am experimenting with. I’m thinking that if this idea continues to flow nicely then I’ll take things one more step and try something. What? Well, I am kinda wondering what would happen if I released a PDF at no charge — Free!!! — and then ran a Kickstarter project for a hardcover book. Would a free PDF help, harm, or have no impact at all on a Kickstarter project? I’ve no idea, but if this goes along a successful path then I guess we will find out.

Free PDF or not, if you print it, I’ll buy the actual book. I get enough screen time already and prefer paper over bytes any day!
@Stratos – I also prefer printed books. I just want to see if releasing a free PDF has a positive or negative affect on a Kickstarter project. I guess we’ll find out soon enough! 🙂
Wait–so is the experiment for a Star Wars book? Or the process is the experiment part?
P.S. Put me down for a book as well!
@Jay – The experiment is in two parts.
1. The process of releasing a free PDF.
2. Layout/planning for a book devoted to the Expanded Universe action figure subline of 1998. Since that screenshot I’ve revised the design a bit more.
And yep. A book about Star Wars toys. I’ve got about 50 pages blocked out at the moment and expect this to come in at 80.
