Affiliate Link – Star Wars: Secrets of Shadows of the Empire

Now that I’ve added a Shadows of the Empire guide to my current Kickstarter project it is time to review the references I’ve already assembled. One of the books that is proving useful to the project is the 1996 The Secrets of Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire* and its chapter on toys. Man, seeing those Kenner prototypes for the Virago is fantastic.

What I find a bit odd, though, is how the Virago page at theswca.com states that “The action figure line was not smashing success . . . ” What I find strange is that this statement contradicts the statement of a Kenner staffer in Star Wars Galaxy Collector #3 where Kenner’s Star Wars team leader of the time, Rick Ruskin, said:

“We started thinking about the Expanded Universe line soon after we launched the Shadows line and saw how successful it was.”

You can see how these two sources leave me scratching my head and trying to puzzle out what’s really going on.
