Planet Toys Ad and 1996 Star Wars Power of the Force Action Figures

From a 1996 issue of Tomart’s Action Figure Digest comes this full-page ad for Planet Toys. I wondered if Planet Toys still existed; no luck locating it online so it may be gone.

Anyway, what struck me as most entertaining about this ad is their listed price for the mail-away Fruit Loops Han Solo action figure (Amazon.com search*): $35! Woah. Yeah, if there was any doubt as to how popular Kenner’s Star Wars action figures were in the nineties then this should help erase your questions and proves that this line was hot.

And hey, even Kenner’s then-new Shadows of the Empire action figure series gets a mention in the ad. One of the things I should include in my upcoming book (Kickstarter page) is a section on the after-market sales of Shadows of the Empire toys back when they were new. It could be fun to track values across the years and try to identify when the value on these collapsed. I’ll have to think about that idea.
