1988 Newspaper Ad Features Half-Price Ultra Magnus
Reading, Pennsylvania’s October 24, 1988 Reading Eagle newspaper will make you cry. If you had been in Reading at the time you could have grabbed a Transformers Ultra Magnus toy for only $17.97. You can’t do that today — hell, even the upcoming Ultra Magnus toy* will cost you $45 — but I’m willing to bet almost everyone reading this would love to find even an open and complete original Ultra Magnus for that price.
And as if Ultra Magnus wasn’t enough to make the ad fun there’s also Doubledealer. That’s right, the 1988 Powermaster Doubledealer (see the TFWiki) is featured in this old newspaper advertisement. Great and classic lineart, that old Hasbro logo, two Transformers toys; this ad is a great way to start any Monday.

Looking at inflation I’m surprised my parents splurged on Doubledealer which would been the equivalent of about $40.
The upcoming Leader class IDW Ultra Magnus also looks like a steal for less than $50 when the original release would have cost $70 in today’s money.
Anyway, the line art is cool.
@mazintotoro – And the new toy’s are arguably better designs with more detail, parts, and poseability.
