Star Wars Renaissance in 1996
From the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (July 9, 1996) comes this article by Glenn Gaslin of the Los Angeles Daily News. So this one’s a hell of a lot of fun because the writer chats with Zach West, a Star Wars fan at the time who was born in 1983. Yep, this is a 13-year old kid who tells us:
“I’ve had dreams where I’m in ‘Star Wars,’ ” says [Zach West]. “I helped fight and stuff. I fly maybe an X-Wing fighter. But I usually blow up in my dreams.”
For me, personally, the tidbit that jumps out most has to be the casual mention of Shadows of the Empire (Amazon.com search*) toward the end of the article. Oh, yeah. 1996. Of course that multimedia series deserves a mention. And now this makes me think I should run another search for “shadows of the empire” in those Google Newspaper Archives and see what else I may have missed.
