Spotted Online – Unofficial Star Wars Gaming Miniatures of the Seventies

When I saw this Facebook post by Charles Lippincott I just knew I’d seen these designs before. Unlike the official Star Wars roleplaying game and miniatures of the eighties (Amazon.com search*), the crude gaming miniatures shown in Lippincott’s Facebook post were total bootlegs and unauthorized. And I’ve gotta say these are totally awesful designs!

More pics were posted, but as I was saying I knew that I had seen these designs before. Fortunately, it only took me about five minutes to remember — and locate! — exactly where I had seen these unauthorized Star Wars miniatures before.

Check out this two-page spread advertisement from the September, 1977 issue of Dragon magazine. It’s a lot of fun to see the ad and minis together; see Lippincott’s Facebook post for more info on the minis, his involvement in dealing with bootlegs during the seventies, and fan response to these miniatures.

Charles Lippincott, please write a book and collect all of this info into one place!
