Masters of the Universe, Strawberry Shortcake, and Hot Wheels on Sale in 1983
With sale prices on Kenner’s Strawberry Shortcake and Mattel’s Masters of the Universe — as well as a rebate on Hot Wheels — toys, this 1983 Pittsburgh Press newspaper ad has something for all of the children of the eighties. The use of photos is a little unusual for the time, but it’s not unheard of and makes this ad stand out just a little more from some of the others we’ve found in Google’s newspaper archives.
For me, the best part has to be the rebate offer. I need to do some more research into rebate offers and try to determine when the practice slowed; it seems that these were far more common in the late seventies and early eighties than they are today.
