“Cards were stacked for success of Uno”

Mattel’s Uno game (find at Amazon.com*) wasn’t always one of the world’s top card games. Way back in the early seventies, as told in the wonderful book Timeless Toys*, the Uno game was developed and manufactured. The game was a labor of love, and the story of its creation and promotion is inspirational for anyone who was ever dreamed of creating their own toys and games.

Fortunately, we can find bits of the story online in the form of old newspaper articles. This Milwaukee Sentinel article — by Gretchen Schuldt on February 6, 1984 — tells of how the game was purchased from its original creators and then built into a powerhouse. It’s a great read for all who are interested in where today’s Uno got its start.
