“Game Maker Plans to Sell” in 1967

If you’ve not yet read Playing by Different Rules*, subtitled “The General Mills/Parker Brothers Merger,” then I highly encourage you to do so immediately. The book may focus on General Mills and Parker Brothers, but the entire General Mills Toy Group gets some attention in the book and it’s a great look at the earliest stages of what are now parts of Hasbro.

One of the key events that led to today’s Hasbro — the acquisition of Parker Brothers by General Mills — is presented in this 1967 newspaper article. Anyone wishing to research just how Hasbro came to own so many of the older toy and game companies will find stories like this highly informative; it’s kinda incredible just how many companies Hasbro has gathered beneath its corporate umbrella over the last three decades.
