Dungeons & Dragons on Sale in 1981
It’s sorta fun to watch product prices over the years. Thanks to the Google newspaper archives, we can take a look at Mattel’s Electronic Dungeons & Dragons Computer Labyrinth Game on sale in 1981 and then compare the price then to the price in 1983 (posted here). That’s a fairly significant drop in the game’s price over less than eighteen months!
What’s even cooler is that this November 5, 1981, newspaper advertisement also lists other Dungeons & Dragons products on sale, not just that electronic game from Mattel. Awesome!

I only started olaying DnD in about 2006, so it’s incredible to see some of this stuff. It’s easy to forget how heavily it had penetrated the mainstream back in the 1980s — while it seems to be doing a healthy trade these days, I don’t think it has the same level of broader cultural awareness.
