Star Wars and Strawberry Shortcake in 1980
There’s a December 12, 1980, Toledo Blade newspaper article about toys that’s totally worth reading. I’m not gonna comment on the article, though, because the photo accompanying the article is what most caught my eye when I was scanning through the Google newspaper archives.
The Strawberry Shortcake doll in the photo I completely understand — the line was new that year, and very popular — but those Kenner large scale Star Wars action figures in the shot don’t make any sense at all. Just why would the photographer use those large toys when the smaller action figures were much more popular? What a weird choice.
