“‘Star Wars’ writer stabs best friend 35 times when he learns of script hoax”
Here’s a horrible, twisted story from 1984 that really makes you stop and question the cruelty of children. From the Spencer, Iowa Daily Reporter newspaper comes this Associated Press article in which we learn the tale of Leigh Matz and Ralph Cochran, two Star Wars fans who found their way into the news for all of the wrong reasons. Matz murdered Cochran, and the grizzly tale is spelled out in this article for anyone who wishes to know more.
For another chapter in the tale there’s also 1989 AP article on the case. Has anyone encountered this story before and have any suggested books that cover the murder?

This was in the AM Kansas City Times 5.26.84. Both sides of front page and another included Leigh’s drawings and the fake letters from Lucas (Cochran). For some reason I kept it when I was young; a little freaked someone my age could get so caught up, and the scam of the older boy. Even today with social media and little privacy, sad to see details of their friendship and what happened. Thanks for posting the 1989 update.
@Anet – Thanks for the info. I’ll try and track that down.
