“Toy Blowout” in 1984
It’s never great to see a business fail, but in this 1984 newspaper advertisement we see the results of a toy store buying lots of discounted product from a failing toy distributor. Not surprisingly, considering that the line was in decline by this point, one of the advertised toys is Kenner’s Star Wars action figures.
Also included in the ad are Smurfs, Nerf, and Play-Doh, showing us that the entire catalog of toys was being sold off at significant discounts. “Reductions to 80%,” the ad proclaims, making me wonder how many other toy stores took advantage of this situation in 1984.
