1999 Advertisement for McFarlane’s Metal Gear Solid Action Figures
This ad for McFarlane’s Metal Gear Solid series (find at Amazon.com*) comes from a 1999 issue of ToyFare magazine and should be just the thing to spur some of you to chase down the toys. Again we get a fantastic McFarlane Toys ad, just continuing our series that proves the company’s ad design was amazing in the late nineties. McFarlane was setting the pace at the time this ad was new, and looking at this again makes me wish there were toy magazines on shelves.

I’ve always loved this ad!
MGS is still one of my favorites (I’ve never been that wild about the sequels) and I’m glad that I also have a complete line of these figures. They’re still really impressive.
I miss toy magazines, too. I also miss when McFarlane was leading the industry. While I feel that NECA has taken over as being the company producing the highest quality sculpts and likenesses and of releasing toys from licenses other companies won’t touch, no major company is innovating, challenging other companies, or doing their own stuff like McFarlane was back then.
