1978 Hot Wheels Newspaper Advertisement
As this 1978 newspaper ad demonstrates, Mattel has done an amazing job over the decades of keeping Hot Wheels cars at a buck or less. Despite inflation, the price of a Hot Wheels toy car today isn’t all that far off from what it was when the line was relatively new. That’s pretty damned amazing when you stop and think about it. Candy bars and sodas, for example, have a significantly higher price tag today than they did in 1978. So how is it Mattel is able to keep Hot Wheels prices so low for so many years?
