G.I. Joe and Masters of the Universe on Sale in 1986
The Menards newspaper ad that I posted a few days ago offers up a lot more than just GoBots and Transformers toys. Here we see two popular toylines of the eighties that have fallen into a sad state today; both G.I. Joe and Masters of the Universe have struggled at retail for years, but when this ad was new both properties were still valuable.
Though we must admit that by the time this ad ran the Masters of the Universe line was in trouble. If you’ve not yet read Mastering the Universe* then you should; the book goes into some detail on the issues the toyline was facing in 1986 and 1987 that led to its death in stores.
