Metamorphosis Alpha in 1976
Before the publication of TSR’s Gamma World roleplaying game came Metamorphosis Alpha, a sci-fi RPG by James Ward in which the player characters are on a ship in deep space. The Metamorphosis Alpha game (find at Amazon.com*) has found a new life today (I continue to pass over the giant-sized hardcover simply because I don’t know how I would ever read it), but this advertisement from December of 1976 allows us to go all the way back to the beginning.
I’m personally more of a Gamma World fan — Metamorphosis Alpha is before my gaming days — but that doesn’t make this vintage advertisement any less entertaining. Only $5 for the game? Wow. Of course, when we factor in inflation that’s the equivalent of over $20 today, but it’s still kinda shocking to see a complete game offered for just $5. Inflation sucks.
Please note that we’ve seen this ad before — posted last year — but this version is better quality and much larger. It’s always best to upgrade, right?
