Star Wars Micro Collection on Sale in 1982
In 1982, Kenner attempted to introduce a new Star Wars toy scale with the Micro Collection, a series of small playsets, vehicles, and die cast metal static figures. The line failed — parents had invested too much in the 3.75-inch scale action figures and vehicles to embrace a new scale — but not before it left the world with some amazing toys.
This newspaper ad from 1982 demonstrates just how quickly the line failed. Released the summer of 1982, by the time this December advertisement ran the Micro Collection was already on clearance. Wow. That was a fast crash.
For more info on the Kenner Star Wars Micro Collection you have got to order yourself a copy of Gus & Duncan’s Guide to Star Wars Micro Collection Toys. This color hardcover book is the absolute best resource I’ve found for the line, and the mix of production, prototype, and concept pieces in the book is fabulous and fun.
