1980 Darth Vader Collector’s Case
Kenner’s Darth Vader Collector’s Case (find at Amazon.com*) arrived in the mail today, and almost immediately I was snapping pics of the case and the marketing insert that was packed with the toy. What a fabulous way to carry Star Wars action figures!
As awesome as the case is, I have to admit that the over-sized cardboard marketing insert may be my favorite part of this package. Featuring classic Kenner action figure photography, this double-sided sheet is all I need to forget what year it is and remember hours and hours of fun with Star Wars figures over two decades ago.
I wish I knew how the company decided which figures to place on which side of the insert. It couldn’t have been a suggested layout or else Vader, Chewbacca, and IG-88 wouldn’t have all been placed on the same side of the insert. Hell, maybe it was just random and the photographer selected the placement without any marketing guidance.
And to make this entry just a little more fun I’ve also expanded the Darth Vader Collector’s Case rebate offer from this 1982 newspaper ad. Gotta see the toys as they were presented to us when we were kids, right?
