Review – GoBots Collector’s Case (1984)
In 1984, when it was time to carry your GoBots toys (find at Amazon.com*), was there any better carrying solution than this official GoBot’s Collector’s Case? Unlike many carrying cases for cheap transforming robot toys (don’t miss the Baroco Collectors Case for Most GoBots and Transformers), this official GoBots case is a hard plastic to better protect your toys. Why use a vinyl and cardboard carrying case when you could load your diecast metal and plastic toys into a more durable case?
Locking Lid!
The yellow lid of the GoBot’s Collector’s Case is held in place with little plastic tabs that swing down to “lock” the lid. I know it’s unlikely to hold up well in rough travel — I can just see young me racing with my bike and not even noticing when the case opened and all of the toys fell out — but at least there’s a little bit of an attempt to secure the lid.
Holds a Mix of Sizes
The below photo shows the case opened so you can get a look at the compartments. I tossed in an assortment of GoBots, Transformers, and other transforming robot toys from the eighties into the case and while it’s not gonna carry the big toys, it works just fine for the smaller stuff in my collection of cheap transforming robot toys.
Closing Thoughts
I may have been down on the GoBots toys (find at Amazon.com*) as a kids (and even up until a few years ago), but I’m growing to respect the Tonka GoBots line more and more every day. This case is exactly what it looks like, and it’s a piece that should be in any serious collection of original Tonka GoBots toys. Fortunately, these are easy to find and cheap.
