1978 and “The Droids Of Star Wars”
As I’ve said before, the years between Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back were a special time for Star Wars fans. Not enough official information was in place to limit creativity and expansion of the universe, and speculative works touched on many points that would eventually be explained, changed, or simply ignored. I’d love to read a close examination of these years, and any such work would have to explore the Star Wars Official Poster Monthly magazine for hidden gems and surprises.
For example, this article about droids from issue seven of Star Wars Official Poster Monthly magazine speculates on the existence of renegade droids in the Star Wars universe. This was an idea tackled wonderfully in the Star Wars: Droid World* book, and I can’t help but wonder if the Droid World concept found its start in this brief sentence in the Star Wars Official Poster Monthly magazine article.
“We may even imagine that on one or two of the more peripheral planets a group of revolutionary droids may have seized power and displaced or eliminated the human population.”
