Expendables RPG Advertisement from 1989
My only real experience with the Expendables roleplaying game comes from what I’ve read others have to say about the game. I vaguely remember flipping through a copy about twenty years ago, but before that, the only encounter I had with the game was the description in Rick Swan’s Complete Guide to Role-Playing Games* where he writes:
Players take the roles of interstellar explorers employed by a mysterious corporate entity called the Company. The explorers are charged with the investigation of uncharted planets and sizing up their suitability for economic exploitation. Cynical corporate policy considers employees to be disposable resources, which is why they’re called Expendables.
Call me crazy, but that concept sounds pretty cool to me. Which makes this 1989 ad for the Expendables roleplaying game all the more fascinating to me, since I am now left asking: Just what does the game hide inside its covers?
