Spotted Online – Battlestar Galactica Stellar Probe and Scarab Packaging Artwork
Flickr user Mikey Walters has posted several images from the past, including these two amazing paintings from Mattel’s Battlestar Galactica toys of the seventies. I had that Scarab when I was a kid, and looking at this artwork makes me want to track down everything Mattel produced for the line. Gorgeous art!!!

Thanks for posting! I’ve enjoyed several of your books!
@Mikey Walters – Always happy to share awesome stuff from the past! And thank you. I appreciate the support.
BSG was definitely riding the coattails of Star Wars, but one thing the toys did brilliantly, was to bridge the look of the series with the aesthetics of modern (read: 70s/80s) space craft. Those two images you posted could just as easily been in some “in the near future” picture book and they’d have been totally believable as NASA “artist interpretation” paintings.
