1972 Kenner Fun Catalog: Cover and SSP Toys
I shared the 1974 Kenner Fun Catalog last month (click to see the pages), and now it’s time we step back to 1972 for that year’s catalog. These Fun Catalogs were printed inside comic books, giving kids sixteen pages of extra ads and no doubt inspiring many a “can I have it?” moments when these ads were new.
First up we get the cover, above, and promises of what’s inside. Snoopy was clearly big business for Kenner in the seventies, but what most surprises me about this design is that the toys aren’t listed in the order that they appear in the catalog. For example, the very first pages are dedicated to the SSP — Super Sonic Power — toyline. A total of four pages are devoted to those toy cars.
And hey, there was an SSP club in 1972? Fantastic! We could use more toyline clubs these days. Actually, what clubs are even out there today for toys? Anyone know of any modern and active clubs?
