Kenner’s Star Wars Toys 40% Off at Kiddytown in 1984
By late in 1984, retailers had determined that the once-powerful Star Wars toyline from Kenner was no longer in as high demand as it once was. With the trilogy over, and no new movies planned, kids (including me!) switched attention to G.I. Joe, Transformers, and many other brands, leaving Kenner’s Star Wars toys clogging shelves.
This 1984 Kiddytown newspaper ad shows one retailer’s attempt to dump as much of Kenner’s Star Wars toys as possible for Christmas that year. 40% off? Just how many of us wish that we’d been able to take advantage of this sale and stock up on many, many duplicates of the toys shown in the ad? A Y-Wing!
