Review – Diaclone Powered System Set A Type
Takara’s Diaclone Reboot toyline find at Amazon.com*) launched strong last year with the Dia Battle V2* — which is amazing — as well as a repaint of that design. An incredible launch of the new Diaclone line, and now we’re getting the newer designs which, surprisingly enough, are dramatically smaller than that first transforming robot toy.
Powered System Set A
This small suit of powered armor — just a tad over 2-inches tall — is a fantastic design that is way more fun than you may first think. Takara has already released multiple colorways of this new Diaclone Reboot toy find at Amazon.com*), so today I’m going to focus on the suit in its basic configuration. Also check out my look at the Set B toy and the included drop pod/garage (review here).
Articulation
The Powered System Set A, despite its small size, is a lot more articulated than you may expect. A quick run through the toy’s joints:
- Torso – The cockpit swivels up to remove the pilot (see below) and the hips are on a slide that changes the balance and stance of the toy.
- Arms – Hinges pivot the arms behind the torso (for garage storage), ball joints below the bicep/above the elbow provide a wide range of movement, the elbows are hinged below that ball joint, and the wrists swivel.
- Legs – Ball-jointed hips, hinged knees, and swivel-hinge ankles.
I count fourteen points of articulation (not including the cockpit), which is a crazy number of joints for a 2-inch tall robot toy!
So Fun!!!
I’ll be the first to admit that Takara’s Diaclone Reboot toyline find at Amazon.com*) is kinda pricey — this little robot (with his garage/drop pod) was $30 — but the toy quality is superb and totally worth the cost. The plastic feels durable and tight, the painted apps are attractive, and the pilot even gets a clear visor to see through the mecha’s chest. And those guns? You can totally remove them and snap them on to various parts of the mecha’s body.
The Diaclone Reboot toyline find at Amazon.com*) surprised me — first in that it even happened, then in how great the Dia Battle V2* turned out — and I am happy to report that this Powered System Set A Type mecha toy continues my overall happiness with the new line. Seriously, I can now say that I am gonna keep grabbing the toys in this series as long as the quality remains this high.
This is far from the only thing the toy can do, though, so please take a look at the Powered System Set B Type where you can see the mecha folded up and the garage/drop pod accessory that is included with both toys. B Type review here.
