Review – Diaclone Powered System Set R & B Type/Cosmo Marines
Just in case you thought that we were finished with the Diaclone Reboot toyline (find at Amazon.com*), I am here to tell you: There are more toys to explore!!! Today, thanks to the magic of scheduling posts in advance, I am happy to bring you a companion to the Diaclone Powered System Set A Type (review here) and B Type (review here).
The biggest differences between today’s review and those two earlier reviews are:
- Coloring. These Cosmo Marines suits are, as you can tell, more military in color. No reds or blues here.
- Packaging. Unlike the other two — which were packaged one per box — this Cosmo Marines product is two suits in one box.
Otherwise, these robots are the same as the Diaclone Powered System Set A Type (review here) and B Type (review here), meaning that you should check those two earlier reviews to learn more about the design.
Raid Chamber
Above, you can see three of the drop pods connected together to form . . . a base? A fortification? I’m not quite sure, but the fact that these accessories work together in this way makes me happy. It certainly looks to me as if this could be used as a protective barricade where one or two of the suits can hide in a battle.
And below, you can see how the small Dia Battle V2* ship can connect to one of these drop pods for transport. The ship snaps to the pod without any trouble at all; gotta fly your little powered suits into battle somehow, right?
Mech Mode
Up next is a shot of one of the Cosmo Marines suits in what the instructions call “Mech Mode.” The legs slide back, the torso rotates back, and the pilot sits exposed in the cockpit. And of course the Diaclone Powered System Set A Type (review here) and B Type (review here) can both switch to this mode; the upright pose shown in most of the pics I’ve shared of the toys is classified as the”Maneuver Mode” in the instructions.
Integrate Mode
Did you know that the Cosmo Marines suit can plug into the Dia Battles v2 Lunar Base* robot toy? Yep, Takara’s designers even found a way to make these small powered suits compatible with the first Diaclone Reboot robot (find at Amazon.com*) release from last year. The little suit folds up and then snaps into the larger robot.
Surprisingly, the small suit connects pretty firmly to that Dia Battles v2 Lunar Base* robot toy. I don’t think I would want to shake the combo super hard, but once plugged in, the small suit isn’t likely to just fall out. A nice, secure connection that is just one more sign of the level of work the designers put into this entire series.
And There Are More!
I count four more of the small Diaclone Reboot powered suits listed online for pre-order, which will put my total count of these toys to eight. Eight? That’s crazy! Takara has done such a great job with the Diaclone Reboot robot (find at Amazon.com*) line so far that I am happy to keep grabbing these as they are released.
I’ve no idea just how far Takara can take the new Diaclone series, but if the toys continue to be this fun then I’ll stick with it. Maybe Hasbro or someone will license the Diaclone Reboot for wider distribution in the US? Probably not, but I know I’d love to see some comics or fiction for the line released in English. Anyway, time for me to get busy . . . and time for you to try to resist buying these incredible toys!
