Review – Transformers: Titans Return Brawn

Not to be confused with the Titan Master Brawn toy (review here), the Transformers: Titans Return Brawn* toy updates the 1984 original to today and, as with all of the Titans Return series, the result is fabulous. Playable, quick to transform, and even includes a seat for the small Titan Master toys to ride around inside . . . meaning, of course, that Brawn can ride around inside of Brawn. What an odd choice by Hasbro to give us two versions of the same character in this line.

Vehicle Mode

While not identical to the original toy design, Transformers: Titans Return Brawn* was clearly inspired by that off-road vehicle design. The new version is a bit leaner and not as beefy, but it is a fitting update. And that opening cockpit? Genius! I love that even these smaller Titans Return toys without the Headmaster gimmick include a way for the Titan Master toys to interact with them. The Hasbro designers on this entire project are doing a remarkable job of making fun, playable Transformers toys.

Robot Mode

This is where Transformers: Titans Return Brawn* really starts to remind us of the 1984 version of the character. Not so much the toy, yes, but definitely Brawn as he appeared in the classic cartoon. Squat. Bulky. Beefy. Yes, this Transformers: Titans Return Brawn* toy is absolutely a fantastic update to the original and, as with the other Titans Return toys, he’s got just enough articulation to work without being a frustration to transform.

  • Head – No articulation at all. The head is locked into place.
  • Torso – Nothing. A waist swivel would have been great, but I can understand why the smaller toys don’t have quite as much articulation as the pricier releases in the line.
  • Arms – Ball-hinge shoulders and ball-jointed elbows.
  • Legs – Ball-jointed hips, swivel thighs, and hinged knees.

And that’s it! But, thankfully, you can get a lot of fun out of those joints.

Closing Thoughts

Not surprisingly, and as with the rest of the series, I’m completely happy with the Transformers: Titans Return Brawn* as Hasbro has designed him. This is the first of the Legends-class toys in this line that I’ve cracked open and played with, but Brawn turned out so great that I may get another one of the line released from the package this weekend. Totally recommended!
