Gen Con Score: More Collectible Card Games from the Nineties
In addition to two BattleTech CCG booster displays (mentioned yesterday), I also got my hands on three other collectible card games at Gen Con. My treasures are:
- X-Files CCG* – Published at the height of the X-Files’ popularity, I had a few starters at home, so this box will be very welcome once I get time to sit down with the game.
- Wyvern CCG* – A Stratego-like mechanic, Wyvern is a classic game that was once a big seller. This particular display is the final version of the game, so it will be interesting to see how these cards compare the the limited edition cards I own.
- Super Nova CCG* – A mostly forgotten game, what I find most interesting about Super Nova comes down to the product format — a CCG without starters and were players all play from a common deck — and the mechanic to use cards to create a starmap/gameboard.
There were other older CCGs for sale at the convention, but I could go completely insane snatching up too many boxes, so these are it for me this time around.
I played a bit of Wyvern around 2000-2001 — it was quite a lot of fun. Simple to play and not as deep as M:TG, but very entertaining.
@Wolf – Wyvern still holds up (well, it did when I last played about six or seven years ago). Time to see if I can find the already-constructed decks and give the game another shot.
