1988 GURPS Magazine Advertisement

One of the games that we produce at the office is GURPS (find at Amazon.com*), the Generic Universal Roleplaying System that has been in stores since launch in 1986. The game has seen hundreds of print sourcebooks, and many digital releases, in the last three decades, and there’s almost no end to the system’s depth and flexibility. GURPS has a loyal following, so one of the things we try to do at the office is keep the new support flowing; most recently, we finished a Dungeon Fantasy boxed set* that is set to reach stores next month.

Today, though, I want to go back to the early days of GURPS and share this 1988 advertisement from Gateways magazine. The ad follows the graphic design seen in the earliest GURPS releases and features just some of the sourcebooks that were created back then. As you can tell, those early days of GURPS were packed with a wide variety of settings and sourcebooks. A fun ad that should bring back memories for those of you who, like me, were gaming in the late eighties.
